Head Lice are tiny blood-sucking parasites that live in the scalp of children who are under the age of 10. The eggs of lice are known as nits. They are highly contagious and can be difficult to get rid off. The medical term for infestation with head lice is known as Pediculosis capitis. It causes irritation and itching sensation to the infected person.

Head Lice is not caused because of poor hygiene or a health hazard. These are quite common among kids and may spread to the rest of the household as they are contagious. Adult head lice are about one-eighth of an inch long, female lice are larger than the male. Female lice generally lay 6-8 eggs each day. These eggs get attached to the shaft of the hair due to secretions by the female louse. The eggs generally take a weeks time to hatch into nymph (immature form of head louse).
