Sustainability gives Life a meaning
We all come across terms like sustainable development, sustainable living and sustainability in various forms in our daily lives. But how often do we give a deep thought about what actually is the meaning of sustainable living. Sustainable living revolves around a solicitous living satisfying our basic needs of food, water and shelter, while saving a worthwhile for the future generations, all of this with keeping in mind the environmental balance. The recent disastrous floods, earthquakes and droughts leading to Day Zero in most parts of the world, over the past few years are a direct indication of ‘Why is Eco – Friendly living Important?’
The nature has a complex yet a delicate balance to strive life inspired by equity among all of its inhabitants. It is interweaved to form a complete system with each one of our role clearly defined and kept simple. As the famous saying by Mahatma Gandhi stands, “The Earth has enough for everyone’s need, but not enough for everyone’s greed”, we need to look closely into our actions whether they are a necessity or a luxury. When we try to restrict to the levels of necessary things, we can be sure of staying within the boundaries set by the laws of co-living with the innumerous life forms on Earth.
The Nature Doesn’t Change, We Force It To

When we do opt for eco-friendly products and the ones processed with due respect to the balance of the ecosystem, we don’t favor thee Earth, rather we do more of a favor to our future generations. The human life on earth can only survive by counting on the actions to be taken to save Nature. There are many examples of landslides, floods and drought that have been a long term effect of deforestation in all forms. We depend on our basic needs like food and water from the ultimate soul of nature. Rains were considered one of the purest form of water, but acid rains contradict the long known fact of the past. The soil had the magic of producing nutritious food, which made us hale and healthy. Now, ecologists call the soil dead, thereby requiring artificial fertilizers and pesticides to make way to produce highly adulterated food, right from the seed. These have been severe consequences of our selfish lifestyles. Each individual house has a bore well to suck out the underground water channels, and we waste out the rain water. The concrete roads and tiled floors, make it very difficult for rain water to replenish the underground water channels. Even the little places with open soil, is covered with a layer of plastics underneath, which now the world is terming to be ‘Plastisphere’.
These have cumulatively killed the water life, and finally knocking our throats. Cape Town was struck with Day Zero, the day we humans fight with each other for water. The day each person’s water use is going to be cut down to maybe a bucket of water for weeks. Cape Town is now finding out new strategies, to fix the daily usage and encourages water to be recycled from the seas.
This is just a warning to every other nation that defines economy to the bidding coin. The basic respect to nature is what we all humans need to pay by changing your lifestyle, not drastically but minor changes in each one of us can impact the world on the whole.
Learn Green, Live Green, Let Green
